Our ultimate goal in achieving a high quality,
educational, and informative Canadian Technical Security Conference
(CTSC 2010) requires the collective talents of excellent presenters and
speakers to conduct the wide range of seminars, technical workshops, and
the expert panel discussion group proposed for this years event.
The
conference committee would be interested in hearing from industry TSCM
professionals who would be interested in conducting one (1) or more of
the high quality seminar sessions, or in assisting with the proposed
technical workshop during the conference.
The conference committee has
opened the door to proposals, papers and topic suggestions.

Robin
Jackman
(1A) (2A) (3A)
Robin Jackman, is a Senior RF Applications
Engineer with Tektronix. Over the past 20 years Mr. Jackman has held a
variety of positions in the public and private sector involving
radio-monitoring, radio-location, high speed signal acquisition and
monitoring systems design.
Paul
D Turner, TSS TSI (4A) (6A) (12A) (16A) (17A)
Mr. Turner is a retired professional investigator
with a quarter century of experience and is the President of
Professional Development TSCM Group Inc. Paul is the Technical Security
Director (TSD) of the company's Technical Security Branch (TSB); a TSB certified Technical Security Specialist
(TSS) and an experienced Technical Security Instructor (TSI).
Paul has thirty (30) years of experience and
upward of 10,000 hours of actual working experience in the field
providing professional TSCM, ECM, COMSEC and CI related professional
services, including advanced air and ground based Radio Direction
Finding (RDF).
Paul is a FLIR (ITC) Level I Thermographer and
has conducted extensive application based research into developing
Infrared (IR) Thermal Imaging techniques to support security, law
enforcement and military technical security applications.
Mr. Turner has and more than 10,000 hours of
teaching experience and as the primary instructor, teaches the only TSS
Certification (Designate) Training in North America, at TSB Resident
Training Centre (RTC) in Eastern Ontario. Paul has instructed at
Sheridan College and has provided lectures and workshops at both Ryerson
University and Seneca College, as well as a host of client venues for
government, military and private sector TSCM personnel and clients.
Ryk
Edelstein (5A)
Ryk Edelstein has been actively involved in the
IT industry since the early 80’s, and is the founder and a partner at
Converge Net Inc., a Montreal-based Solution provider specializing in
establishing secure end efficient data communication networks. Employing
a unique and highly effective approach of applying packet level traffic
analysis to rapidly identify the root cause of complex IT and regulatory
compliance challenges, Ryk has guided Converge Net to the become the
respected solution provider that it is today.
Recognizing the presence of inadequate and
poorly developed guidance for the decommissioning of data storage
hardware in most current security policies, Ryk has become actively
involved in researching and developing up-to-date information handling
practices that respect regulatory compliance objectives for the
protection of active and end-of-life data.
Mr. Edelstein, provides guidance to both public
and private sector clients on the protection of their digital assets
,and is the co-author of the guide titled "Best Practices for the
Destruction of Digital Data", a guide that addresses current and
validated data handling practices for the decommissioning of end-of-life
storage hardware using properly aligned technologies.
John
Pavelich (7A)
Mr. Pavelich has extensive experience as a Senior Security Analyst;
consulting with the Government of Canada. John was a practice leader at
Deloitte and Entrust architecting government IT security systems.
John's background includes more than 30 years experience on IT security
and tactical SIGINT projects.
John is currently the CEO of Spectral Guard, an Ottawa-based firm
specializing in TSCM. He is involved in developing Technical Security
Countermeasures standards and technology implementations for the
protection of classified information processing systems.
John has extensive experience in the federal
government, private sector, and is currently researching the
technologies utilized in modern Non-Linear Junction Detection (NLJD) and
fast scanning digital receivers for the TSCM function.
John is a graduate of the Canadian based
Technical Security Specialist (TSS) Designate Certification program.
Gary
Dawson MSc. PSP, CPP (8A)
Served for 25 years and retired as a Major in
the Canadian Army. He held command and staff positions with postings in
Germany, Canada and the Airborne Regiment as well as operational command
roles in Somalia and Rwanda. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering
from Queen’s University and an MSc in Security and Risk Management from
Leicester University UK.
As well he is board certified in Security
Management by ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional
(CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP). He has recently returned
from 12 years in Qatar where he was involved in major Oil and Gas
projects and security management of several sites in Qatar. While in
Qatar he also started and ran the security program for the Qatar
Foundation a landmark education and Technology Park in Doha under the
auspices of the Qatari Royal family.
Geoff
Matthews (11A)

Roaming around the bowels of the IT world for
that last 13 years, Geoff Matthews has logged time in support, network
administration, programming, as well as database and web development,
only to find himself in the conundrums of IT Security as product manager
for CMI, a company focused on bringing innovative IT security solutions
to the Canadian market. Research is typically the order of the day as he
attempts to keep pace with ever evolving landscape of threats,
mitigation and everything in between.
"A common mistake that people make when trying
to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the
ingenuity of complete fools - That Douglas Adams quote seems to be a
reoccurring theme with technology in general." says Geoff.
As great as technology is, sometimes the best
thing about technology, is getting away from it, which is evident by his
frequent sabbaticals canoeing the lakes of Algonquin Park, the stories
of which he is always happy to recount when asked.
John
Price CPP, CRM
(13A)

John has extensive background in security operations, investigations,
Labour dispute management and executive protection. John is an
accomplished interviewer, investigator and security manager and has 20
years experience working with different Law Enforcement and Government
agencies in advisory positions, John is a Certified Protection
Professional and a Certified Risk Manager.
John is currently a partner, Senior Investigator & Security Consultant
with Price-Langevin and Associates Inc. His expertise includes security
inspections, security surveys, risk analysis, executive protection
services, technical security-TSCM, loss prevention program design and
implementation, Tender specifications, CCTV system design, internal and
external criminal investigation.
John is a graduate of Law Enforcement and Security Program, GMCC and is
certified in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Level I and
level II. In addition John is trained in Covert Electronic Surveillance
and is a Certified Locksmith and former Chairman for the American
Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) - Alberta / Northern Alberta
Chapter.
Robert
W. Beggs

Robert Beggs is the founder and CEO of
DigitalDefence.
As leader of Canada's leading incident response
and forensics consultancy, he has served clients in the banking,
insurance, brokerage, and mortgage industries, as well as several small
and medium enterprises from a variety of market verticals.
He has been responsible for the technical
leadership and project management of more than 300 consulting
engagements, including policy development and review, standards
compliance, attack and penetration testing of wired and wireless
networks, third party security assessments, incident response, and other
consulting projects.
His experience with military, financial, and
other systems related to critical infrastructure have prepared him to
provide a high degree of practical security.
Before working as a Senior Consultant to one of
Canada's largest financial institutions, Robert was employed by Netigy,
a global network and security infrastructure firm based in San Jose. He
has also worked for Nortel Networks in the Systems Engineering group as
a specialist responsible for developing new IP-based services for global
telecommunications clients.
Robert is the lead instructor for
DigitalDefence, providing instruction in ethical hacking, incident
response, live system analysis, malware analysis, and data forensics.
Robert is a founder and proud sponsor of the Toronto Area Security
Klatch, TASK, North America’s largest user group focused solely on
security issues.
He holds an MBA in Science and Technology from
Queen’s University, and is a Certified Information Systems Security
Professional and a Certified Information Systems Auditor.
